About the Museum of Health
The Museum of Health is a social enterprise initiative of the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation (THF). Opening at the end of February 2026 the Museum will host exhibitions that showcase the extensive collection that dates to the mid-19th century origins of our health and mental health services. With a commitment to positively impact health and wellbeing, the Museum will also host contemporary exhibitions, workshops and events - both within the Museum and in the beautiful grounds on which it sits. First Nations people have been integral in ensuring the landscaping includes Healing Gardens and a Yarning Circle.
The THF and Museum are committed to ensuring the story of health and wellbeing includes the First Nations experience and acknowledges the wisdom of health and wellness of the people on this land long before the establishment of our health services.
The Museum of Health is excited to launch a call for First Nations Artists exhibition proposals as part of their opening exhibitions. The Museum is opening in late February 2026 and it is anticipated that the inaugural exhibitions will remain for 4 months.
The theme of the exhibition is “health and wellbeing” through a First Nations lens. Artists can interpret this from a personal or broader cultural perspective.
Paper, canvas and three-dimensional works will be considered.
While we have a gallery space particularly set aside for this special exhibition, there is some scope for expanding into other areas of the museum or in the outside grounds around the museum. Please reach out to talk with us if you would like to view the space or discuss installation requirements.
Artists can submit applications for more than one work. Each work will be considered separately. If you have a work which includes separate pieces, please submit this as one work.
Work does not need to be complete at time of application. There needs to be sufficient detail in the application for the Panel to understand the completed works. The Panel reserves the right not to accept works that differ to what was proposed in the application.
Installation
Works need to be ready for installation by Monday February 2nd, 2026.
